New Review Of EPilation

Here is a review of my latest release EPilation from Rave Magazine last week.
(Independent)
Compilation of singer’s EPs shows eclectic style choices and fondness for phat beats.
Epilation, thank Christ, is not another standard handful of songs churned out by some delicate, personality-lacking female singer/songwriter. Are we past that yet? A few more days? Phew… but what we do have is the compilation of Tara Simmons’ Pendulum and All The Amendment’s EPs, which shows a greater attention to detail and maturity than most of the stuff spewing forth from the genre right now. Dense vocal harmonies, a plethora of instruments at her disposal and quirky arrangements all warrant repeated listenings of the album. Rat could almost be considered trip-hop, while Trip Over’s piano evokes innocence and childhood lost to the inevitability of time. Even the dangerous dull-jazz territory of Pendulum is propped up by some punchy drums and a Clarinet solo that’s more freak-out than Kenny G. If Missy Higgins is the Sound Of White (very, VERY white), then Tara Simmons is the Sound Of Red, whether it be wine, roses or blood being spilt.
