Film Clip & Why I Heart Triple J

I have a new video which the director of All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane decided to shoot as part of their marketing plan for the film. Margaret and David gave it three and a half stars on their show last week, a pretty bloody good effort considering how tough to impress the pair are.

There is more info about the film at allmyfriendsmovie.com and it is currently showing in cinemas around Australia.

Have a look!

Also, my song Break The Rules For Me was aired on Triple J the other night making it the fifth song of mine they have played. I think we are darn lucky to have a radio station in Australia that fills the gap between commercial and community radio, giving support to local and independent artists in front of a national audience. It also makes me happy to know they are willing to re-visit my stuff from time to time.

Going Solo

As of next Thursday night, I’ll be playing around the traps as a soloist as well as playing shows with my band. The whole idea is provoked by expensive touring experiences and by playing solo I’ll be able to get out of Brisbane a lot more.

Speaking of which, my next solo show will then be at Pure Pop Records in Melbourne January 18. It’s a bit of a wussy attempt at playing down south again but this year will see me making quite a few more trips. I’m heading down to catch a favourite band of mine from the UK called Cinematic Orchestra which I’m sure will be an amazing experience. If you haven’t already heard of them you should check them out.

Grace

I decided I’d post a little bootleg from the show It Was Twenty Years Ago Today I did with Topology at the Brisbane Powerhouse in June.  Hope you enjoy.  x

Hello again 1990.

So.

On April 27 I’ll be taking to the Powerhouse Theatre stage with Quintet Topology and drummer John Parker to reincarnate and remember songs from the early 90′s. We’ll be playing songs by Radiohead, Nick Cave, Frente, Bjork, Sound Garden, Crowded House, The Cure and lots more and most importantly, we’ll probably be sporting some kind of hideous concoction of 90′s attire. Although we remember the 90′s for all the things it did so badly, there are also some absolute gems out there and we’ll be celebrating some of the best, and of course, a couple of the worst.

Tickets are available at the powerhouse website here

Honey

A few weeks ago while I was down in Sydney visiting family, my Mum and I decided, slightly boozed, to put some imagery to my song Honey, which before now hasn’t really been heard. Hope you love it.

If you want to see what my Mum is usually up to you can check out her website at juliesimmonsfineart.com

Mum’s are the best.
